The preparatory classes in applied arts, audiovisual and animation at BRASSART have a dual objective: to bring students up to speed with their knowledge and to help them discover new fields.
- Upgrading: the applied arts, audiovisual and animation preparatory classes will enable students to assimilate the fundamentals so that they can start their course at BRASSART with complete confidence.
- Discovering careers in digital design: BRASSART's preparatory classes are also an excellent way of fine-tuning your professional orientation through discovery options in the field of digital design.

Do I need special equipment to follow courses at the BRASSART school?
The BRASSART school of graphic design offers the Adobe Suite, which includes the main graphic design software: Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign and Premiere Pro!
For the preparatory class in applied arts, the BRASSART school has teamed up with a national brand to offer a complete set of artistic tools at a preferential rate: charcoal markers, acrylics, sketchbook, etc.
Who teaches at the Graphic Design School BRASSART?

Is the diploma awarded by the Graphic Design School BRASSART recognised by the State?
As a guarantee of quality, the Graphic Design School BRASSART awards state-recognised diplomas. The BRASSART school awards Level 5 (Bac+2), Level 6 (Bac+3/4) and Level 7 (Bac+5) professional qualifications listed in the Répertoire National des Certifications Professionnelles. We even offer a state diploma as part of the BTS Audiovisual.
Is it possible to move to another BRASSART campus?
The Graphic Design School BRASSART promotes mobility and the exchange of skills between its 15 national campuses. So if a student wants to specialise in a field that is not offered at their current BRASSART school, or if they are moving house, they can submit their plans to change campuses to the teaching team.
Are preparatory classes in applied arts, audiovisual and animated film compulsory?
The preparatory class in applied arts, audiovisual or animation is not compulsory to join BRASSART. When you apply, your level will be assessed. If it is sufficient, you will be able to enter the 2nd year of one of our artistic courses.
What is the curriculum like at the BRASSART School of Graphic Design?
Depending on the course of study you choose, the days at BRASSART are very different. Can we choose a specialisation in our final year at BRASSART?
Depending on the course you choose, you can choose a specialisation within your BRASSART graphic design training:
- Graphic and Digital Design course - 3 specialisations: Art Direction & Branding, Motion Content, Digital Thinking
- 3D Animation & VFX course - 3 specialisations: Visual development 2D and 3D, Animation & Rigging, VFX & Compositing
- Graphic Arts Illustration course - 4 specialisations: Illustration, Concept Art, Storyboard, Comics
From which year onwards can we choose our specialisations in graphic design?
There are several options for your course in graphic design at BRASSART:
- After the year of preparatory classes in applied arts, you select the stream you wish to join: Graphic Arts Illustration, Graphic & Digital Design or 3D Animation & VFX.
- Once you have started your course in one of these streams, a specialisation is usually offered in the final year. This enables you to gain an insight into many different worlds and professions before specialising.
If you choose to join our Video Games stream to become a Game Designer, the specialisation will take place at the end of the course.

What foreign languages does the Graphic Design School BRASSART offers?
Throughout the courses, our students are taught in English. This enables them to acquire and familiarise themselves with the technical vocabulary associated with the creative professions so that they can join studios and agencies abroad.
At the BRASSART Nantes School of Design, students can follow a Graphic & Digital Design curriculum in a bilingual French-English format, with almost 70% of the courses in English.
What is the holiday/course timetable at BRASSART?
Holidays at BRASSART depend on your year of training and your campus. They generally coincide with the French national education system's school holidays.
How do you validate your year of training at the Graphic Design School BRASSART?
The methods used to validate the years of study vary according to the course and the year. Assessments are made both during mid-term exams (2 per year) and on an ongoing basis throughout the year, thanks to reports produced during workshops. A larger project is scheduled at the end of each year. A full year will enable you to validate 60 ECTS credits.
What percentage of courses are taught in English at the Graphic Design School BRASSART?
Our courses are taught in French only. However, our syllabuses include English language classes throughout the course to enable students to acquire the technical vocabulary specific to their chosen field. On the Nantes campus, students can follow a Graphic Design & Digital programme in a bilingual French-English format, with almost 70% of the courses in English.
What are ECTS credits?
ECTS were created at European level to facilitate student mobility between different countries. Today, each semester is equivalent to 30 ECTS, so one year of study corresponds to 60 ECTS. The number of ECTS accumulated will therefore vary depending on the length of your course. For the Graphic Design and 3D Animation programmes, for example, you will finish your course with 300 ECTS.
Does BRASSART offer any extra-curricular activities?
Each campus has associations and clubs that offer students a wide range of extra-curricular activities, including charity, community work and sports. You'll also benefit from cultural outings, student parties, afterwork sessions and themed breakfasts, all of which add to the rhythm of your life on campus and encourage conviviality and solidarity between students. Can I apply at any time to do a VAE in graphic design?
VAE, or Validation des Acquis de l'Expérience, is an excellent way of obtaining official recognition of your skills. Regardless of your age, status or level of training, you can apply for VAE. How long does a VAE in graphic design at BRASSART last?
The VAE process takes between 8 and 12 months of preparation and consists of 5 main stages:
- Information about the VAE procedure
- Submission of an admissibility file
- Compiling the validation file
- Oral defence and presentation of work to a jury
- The panel's decision
How long does a vocational course in graphic design at BRASSART last?

Do I have to do any work placements to validate my VAE in graphic design at the BRASSART school?
A VAE in graphic design at BRASSART does not require a work placement. This process takes 8 to 12 months of preparation following receipt of the application, and is validated by an oral presentation in front of a panel of judges. To find out more, see our ‘VAE process’ page.
How do you choose a graphic design school?
